How to Use Zoom

Learn how to set up and use Zoom for your music lessons.

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a free online video-call application that allows people from anywhere in the world to connect instantly.

At Bilingual Music, all lessons are delivered through Zoom to ensure high-quality sound, stable video, and a smooth online learning experience.

How to Join Your Lesson

After Booking

Once your lesson is confirmed, you will receive an email with your Zoom meeting link. At the scheduled time, click the link to enter your lesson room.

Joining from a Computer

Click the Lesson Link

Click the link in your email before your lesson. If Zoom isn't installed yet, the download will begin automatically. If not, click "Download" when prompted.

Install the Zoom App (First Time Only)

The first time you join, Zoom installs automatically (1-2 minutes). After that, the app will open automatically for future lessons.

Join with Computer Audio

Click "Join with Computer Audio." Then check your microphone: Speak into your mic. If the green meter moves, everything is working correctly. If not, click the arrow next to the mic icon and select the correct microphone.

Joining from a Smartphone or Tablet

Install the App First

Download "Zoom Workplace" from the App Store or Google Play before your first lesson.

Joining the Lesson

Open your lesson details page after booking, confirm the date and time, and tap the "Join Zoom" button when the lesson begins. You'll be connected immediately.

Basic Zoom Controls

Microphone (Mute/Unmute)

  • Mic icon (bottom-left)
  • Green meter moves when you speak
  • If not, choose your device using the arrow next to the icon

Camera (On/Off)

  • Camera icon next to the mic
  • Click to switch your video on/off
  • If the camera isn't working, select the correct device using the arrow

Change Your Name

Click your video window → "Rename" → enter your preferred display name.

Switching View Modes

  • Speaker View: Highlights the person speaking
  • Gallery View: Shows all participants equally

Switch using the icon in the top-right. You can also "Pin" the teacher's video to keep it large throughout the lesson.

Leaving the Lesson

Click "Leave" (bottom-right) → "Leave Meeting."

Screen Sharing (PC Only)

To share music sheets, PDFs, or other resources:

  • Click "Share Screen"
  • Select the window you want to share
  • Use annotation tools to draw or highlight
  • Click "Stop Share" to finish

Perfect for checking fingerings, rhythms, or practice notes together.

Recording Lessons (PC Only)

  • Click "Record" → "Record on this Computer."
  • A recording indicator will appear.
  • Once the lesson ends, the video file saves automatically.

※ Please ask your teacher for permission before recording.

Updating Zoom (PC)

To prevent connection or audio issues:

  • Open Zoom
  • Click your profile icon
  • Select "Check for Updates"
  • Install any available updates.
